Elon Musk is aangeklaagd omdat hij stiekem een film liet zien.
Presentaties. Ze kunnen de geschiedenis ingaan als über episch (de eerste iPhone-presentatie van Steve Jobs), of als enorm slaapverwekkend (de presentatie van je collega vanmorgen). De allerbeste presentaties in vergaderruimtes zijn altijd gegeven door Michael Scott, maar met wat bombarie kom je ook een eind tegenwoordig.
Blade Runner 2049
Onlangs had Tesla weer eens zo’n presentatie met de onthulling van de Cybercab. Alleen was ome Elon een beetje stout geweest. Gedurende de presentatie waren beelden te zien van de film Blade Runner 2049. Het gaat om snippets, die ook nog eens met AI waren bewerkt. Bijvoorbeeld bovenstaande afbeelding.
De presentatie van Elon Musk en Tesla werd verzorgt door filmstudio Warner Bros. Volgens Warner Bros en Tesla hadden ze toestemming van producent Alcon om de beelden te gebruiken, maar nu zegt Alcon dat dit helemaal niet waar is.
Nu zijn Elon Musk en Warner Bros aangeklaagd vanwege het onrechtmatig uitzenden van stukjes Blade Runner 2049. Niet alleen tijdens de presentatie van de Cybercab, maar ook bij promomateriaal zijn beelden gebruikt.
Zowel Musk als Warner Bros hebben nog niet gereageerd op de aanklacht. Elon kennende loopt dit of af met veel gedoe aan rechtszaken óf hij geeft een zak geld in een settlement in een poging dit op te lossen. De rijkste man ter wereld heeft gedurende de campagne van Donald Trump ook geen moeite om met geld te strooien, dus deze aanklacht kan er ook nog wel bij.
Blade Runner 2049 is een film uit 2049. Nee grapje, uit 2017. In de film schitteren Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford en Ana de Armas op het witte doek. De titel werd door Warner Bros geproduceerd. Het is echter niet zo dat de filmstudio de rechten in handen heeft om zomaar delen van de film te tonen, bijvoorbeeld tijdens de presentatie van nieuwe Tesla-producten en/of diensten. (via BBC)

Je bestaan rechten op parodieën en citaten. Bovendien claimt organisator Warner Bros dat ze toestemming hadden, dan is de klant Tesla eigenlijk al buiten schot.

Ik denk niet dat je dit gebruik kunt categoriseren als parodie of citaat.
Op de site van de NOS staat dit zinnetje: “Volgens de Amerikaanse filmmaker Alcon hadden Tesla en Warner Bros enkele uren voor dat evenement gevraagd of ze beelden mochten gebruiken. Alcon zegt daar niet mee ingestemd te hebben, maar toch zouden de beelden bewerkt met AI zijn gebruikt voor de promotie.”
Dit is door die bedrijven dus keihard genegeerd, en bovendien heeft Musk tijdens de presenatatie nog verwezen naar de Blade Runner 2049 film. En aangezien Alcon niet vereenzelvigd wil worden met Musk vanwege zijn controversiële gedachtengoed, hebben ze zowel Warner Bros, Tesla als Elon Musk aangeklaagd. Het is zeker geen gevalletje: geld zat, dus dokken maar.
Ik zou het, zeker in het geval van Musk, willen omdraaien: “ik ben de rijkste man ter wereld, f*ck copyrights, ik wil dit gewoon in m’n presentatie hebben”. En dan kun je er dus op wachten dat er iemand naar de rechter stapt.
Overigens is er tijdens diezelfde presentatie, genaamd “We, Robot” ook zonder toestemming geciteerd uit de film “I, Robot”.

Is er ook niet een claim gedaan door de regisseur/producent van I, Robot ivm het kopiëren van het (groeps)voertuig door Tesla? Dit was de eerste keer dat ik de joekel van de single frame grille op een concept FSD Audi zag met maglev techniek. Zou Will Smith een bitch slap geven aan Elon James Musk?
