De terugroepacties stapelen zich op bij BMW.
Het is overdreven om te stellen dat ons aller favoriete automerk (BMW) in zwaar weer zit, maar het is ook zeker geen topjaar. Eerder dit jaar waren er sowieso al twee megaterugroepacties waar respectievelijk 1,4 en 1,5 miljoen auto’s mee gemoeid waren. Sommige modellen konden zelfs tijdelijk niet geleverd worden. En dan waren er ook nog diverse andere grote terugroepacties.
Nu is er weer een nieuwe tegenvaller voor BMW: er moet opnieuw een groot aantal auto’s teruggeroepen worden. Het gaat om bijna 700.000 auto’s. Het probleem is gerelateerd aan de waterpomp en kan in het worst case scenario leiden tot kortsluiting en brand.
Eerder dit jaar werden er al ruim 720.000 auto’s teruggeroepen in de VS vanwege een probleem met de waterpomp, dus het lijkt om hetzelfde issue te gaan. Deze keer betreft de terugroepactie echter China. In Europa hebben we gelukkig niks te vrezen.
De terugroepactie heeft betrekking op een kleine 500.000 BMW’s die in China zelf in elkaar geschroefd worden (waaronder de 3 en 5 Serie) en nog een aantal cross-overs die geïmporteerd worden.
BMW maakt geen haast met de terugroepactie, want die gaat pas in maart van start. Kennelijk is het probleem dus niet zo urgent. Of misschien denken ze: we zijn dit jaar al genoeg geld kwijt geweest aan terugroepacties. Zo kost het grapje met het Integrated Braking System ze bijna 1 miljard.
In China gaat trouwens sowieso niet erg lekker voor BMW dit jaar. In het afgelopen kwartaal kelderden de verkopen aldaar met bijna 30%. Dat is een flinke strop voor BMW, want China was nou net een belangrijke markt. Sterker nog: sommige BMW’s zijn speciaal voor de Chinese smaak ontworpen…
